Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) is a worldwide organization of lay Catholics helping individuals and families in need within their communities.

The Blessed Sacrament-St. Joan of Arc SVdP Conference is part of the Society’s Archdiocesan Council of New Orleans. SVdP New Orleans encompasses all of the parish, university and special works conferences throughout the archdiocese. Local SVdP services include the Adult Learning Center and the Nourishing Louisiana food assistance program.

The BSSJA Conference is dedicated primarily to assisting our parishioners and the neighbors within our parish boundary who need help with living expenses. These people are often facing a utility shutoff, an eviction or other emergency.

Special conference projects include our annual Thanksgiving and Christmas food basket giveaways and our participation in the Society’s annual Friends of the Poor® Walk and other fundraising events.

There are two types of members in the Society of St Vincent de Paul: active and associate. Active members are those who participate regularly in the organization’s prayer life, meetings and person-to-person service to neighbors in need. They must be Catholic and belong to a conference. Those who would like to serve but may not have the time to participate regularly in the meetings and works of the conference, or are not Catholic, may join the Society as associate members.

The BSSJA St. Vincent de Paul Conference meets every fourth Sunday following the 10:00 Mass.
