Our Mission
Blessed Sacrament-St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish is a worshipping community that unites all who enter to worship as a Catholic Faith community with that of the Catholic Church throughout the world. This faith community believes and proclaims the message and mission of Jesus Christ and seeks to live out that belief as a community of worship, shared faith, and service where each member shares with others the gifts and talents received from God. Blessed Sacrament-St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish is “an uptown church with a down-home message” ready and eager to live out the gospel in service to God’s people and each other through faith and the sacraments.
Lenten Rules require fasting and abstinence for Catholics. Those aged 18–59 fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday (one full meal, two smaller ones). Everyone 14+ must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all Fridays of Lent. Catholic Telegraph
- Abstinence: No meat is allowed on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent for those 14 and older. Fish and shellfish are permitted.
- Fasting: Required on Ash Wednesday (Feb. 18) and Good Friday (April 3) for adults 18–59. This means one full meal and two smaller meals, which together do not equal a full meal.
- Other Days: While the above are mandatory, many Catholics choose to voluntarily fast or abstain from luxuries throughout the 40 days as a personal penance.
- Exceptions: Those who are ill, pregnant, nursing, or have chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes) are exempt from fasting and abstinence. Catholic Telegraph
